Grant County Local Emergency Planning Committee Minutes
Don Button called the meeting to order at 12:06 PM with 8 members present Alfred Baker, Don Button, Vivian Button, Jerry Jo Deckert, Richard Everett, Frank Goldsby, and Marshall Lewis.
Jerry Jo Deckert made a motion to accept the minutes to the last meeting. Motion Seconded by Alfred Baker. Motion carried.
Members of the Mitigation Plan committee are Sheila Brown, Jerry Jo Deckert, Linda McHenry, Frank Goldsby and Don Button. Don is filling out the first paperwork from the consulting firm who is assisting us in updating our Mitigation Plan. We will have to have a town hall meeting and meeting to collect the needed information.
Pioneer Electric Cooperative and Pioneer Communication's Health Fair will be March 20. EMS will be doing blood pressures and Blood sugars. The Health Department will be giving H1N1 and Tetanus vaccines.
The Kansas State Animal Response Team and the Kansas Veterinary Medical Reserve Corp are hosting a table top exercise on Companion Animal Decontamination Techniques. Three dates are available February 27 in Wichita, KS, March 7 in Topeka, KS and March 21 at Russell, KS from 10:00AM to 2:00 PM.
A regional workshop on School Crisis Management will be in Dodge City on February 22 from 9AM to 3PM and other locations around the state.
March 25 and 26 Strengthening Community Agrosecurity Planning Workshop in Liberal conducted by KSU and K-state Research and Extension.
February 25 in Dodge City, Kansas Animal Health Department and Kansas Department of Ag will conduct a Permitted Movement in a Foreign Animal Disease Event: Roles and Responsibilities Workshop. They will also hold this training at other locations around the state.
Emergency Management Support Association of Kansas (EMSAK) conference will be held March 31 and April 1 in Russell.
G908 Joint information System/Joint Information Centers training will be held in Satanta on April 20, 21 and 22.
CERT Community Emergency Response Team Training is set up for February 19 and 20, and March 5 and 6th.
March 9th Jeff Hutton with the National Weather Service will conduct the Storm Identification and Spotter Training at 7:00 PM at the Lawson Room of the Grant County Civic Center.
The Siren at the Fairground is not working. It has had several problems; we are trying to get them out again to look at it. The sirens also have to be updated for the narrow banding.
The Southwest Kansas Regional Emergency Planning Council has order the trailers and disaster exercise equipment. Most of the equipment has arrived and the trailers should be coming in shortly. Don has heard from all but one county sheriff's office and all but 3 fire Departments for the region. It looks like they will be ordering about 500 of the 800 MHz radios to continue with the interoperable communications project. The Council is looking at 4 projects for the FY2010 monies. They are looking at continuing the interoperable communications project, the GIS project, a project for Law Enforcement, and an accountability system.
Jerry Jo Deckert asked Don if he could set up classes for the IS300 and IS400. Don will see what can be arranged. Sheila Brown stated several county Health Departments? have personnel that needs the class also.
Richard Everett and Sheila Brown talked about the POD Point of Distribution that was held at Sullivan School with the H1N1 vaccine. Everything went well and every one work together well and the students did a good job helping each other during the event.
Jerry Jo Deckert stated EMS is conducting continuing education the third Tuesday of each month. March will be Code Blue Scenarios and Cardiac Problems.
The City of Ulysses and Grant County are working together to set up rescue equipment at Frazier Park. The County has purchased a 6 wheel Polaris Ranger and trailer. The City is building a building to house this equipment. It will be available for rescues at the lake, the golf course and the trails and other areas as needed. The Fire Department has just completed Ice Rescue Training.
We are receiving Kansas EPCRA Tier II reports and are recording them into CAMEO and preparing a book.
GIS and Grants were also discussed.
