LOCAL EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEE MINUTES
March 20, 2008
Chairperson Don Button called the meeting to order at 12:15 at the Grant County Fire Station. Five members were present; Don Button, Jeff Baier, Todd Hampton, John Crosby and Al Baker.
Jeff Baier made a Motion to approve the minutes to the last meeting. Al Baker seconded. Motion carried.
A copy of the Grant County Local Emergency Operation Plan was shown, and discussion on those needing to look over their sections of the plan so it could be approved.
Copies of the Citizens Preparedness Brochures, that the Southwest Kansas Regional Emergency Planning Council developed, were shown to the committee. The Regional Council had 30,000 copies printed and distributed them to the 18 counties in the region.
A meeting between First Responder department heads had been done to discuss the severe weather procedures that would be followed by all responders involved.
The National Weather Service conducted the annual Weather Awareness training March 18. There were 18 participants that attended the 3:00pm training, and 38 that attended the 7:00pm training. Jeff Hutton, from the Dodge City National Weather Service presented the training. At the training, Don Button stated that with the upgrade to his computer, he will now be able to show the Dodge City Weather Service radar on Channel 10 during severe weather.
Don, Vivian, and Al attended a Rapid Assessment training workshop in Garden City, March 12, 2008. This workshop, presented templates that can be used to do a rapid assessment of damages to the community after a disaster or incident occurs. This would help in requesting addition resources.
Don advised that there will be a Regional Table Top exercise in Garden City for all Hospitals in the SW region. It will be held on April 25, 2005 at St. Catherine’s Hospital.
April 26, 2008 there will be an Amateur Radio class and testing at the Garden City EOC. Anyone interested can contact Richard Everett at were@pld.com.
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training will be held April 11, 12, 25 and 26.
With no other business, members went and looked over the Hazmat and Communications trailers.
The next meeting will be April 17, 2008, 12:00pm at the Fire Station.
John Crosby made a motion to adjourn. Jeff Baier seconded. Motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:50 PM.
