Local Emergency Planning Committee Meeting Minutes – June 20, 2002

 

Meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM.  Member present were:  Tom Kramer, Herb Noyes, Frank Goldsby, Ben Oliver, Michael Anderson, Steve Sawyer, Sharon Phelps, Sherry Thompson, Jeff Baier, George Bushnell, Richard Banes, Vivian Button, Alfred Baker, and Don Button.

We have received a State Grant for a Hazard Analysis of Grant and Seward County.  Our last analysis was done in 1984.  Don will be attending a meeting in Topeka on Tuesday, June 25, 2002 to finalize who will do this and when they will start.

Kansas Homeland Security information was distributed.

Four county employees attended training from the Civic Plus Company on June 17 in Manhattan.  It should be up and going by July 8, 2002.

“Prairie Plaque 2002” state exercise is June 25 to 27 we have a 7 person team attending.  99 out of the 105 counties have planned to attend.  We hope to learn much from this exercise and use what we learn to upgrade our own Local Emergency Operation Plan.

Don is in the process of setting up a Defensive Driving Course for County Employees. It is tentatively scheduled for August 6 and 7 in the evening.  Don and Al are teaching a Radiological Monitoring Class in Moscow on June 22.  He is also trying to set up a Hazardous Material Technician class for here is Ulysses.  Greeley Gas has asked him to do some training for them. 

Kansas Emergency Management Association Conference is September 17 to the 20th, 2002 in Topeka, Kansas.  Training is available at this conference. Some other training available is Exercise and Design in Derby, July 16 thru the 19;  ICS/EOC training will be at the Civic Center in Ulysses on September 4-5, 2002.  The state has several other classes available, if you are interested call Don Button at 620-356-4430.

Emergency Management applied for a Grant thru The Cooper-Clark Foundation for a Laptop and projector for training.  We received a letter from them this week.  The Board of Directors of the Cooper Clark Foundation has approved a grant of $2, 082.00 for the purchase of a laptop computer contingent on Emergency Management raising the funds for the projector.
