The Board of County Commissioners met in special
session at 4:00 p.m. with all members and the County Clerk present.
The meeting was called to 1) discuss rail
service to the county and 2) hire a Civic Center Building and Grounds Manager.
Carl Higgs made the motion to recess into
executive session for 30 minutes for the purpose of discussing possible
contractual and financial matters involving the county. Marty Long seconded the
motion and it passed unanimously. Donnie Young attended this portion of the
meeting. After 30 minutes the meeting continued in open session. It was the
consensus of the commissioners that they would support efforts to upgrade rail
service to Grant County. No specific amount of money was committed at this
time.
In other business Carl Higgs made the motion to
hire J.D. Neufeld as Civic Center Building and Grounds Manager. Marty Long
seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
At 5:00 p.m. the commissioners attended the City
Council meeting to ascertain if the city wanted to contribute funds to help
finance the proposed Law Enforcement Center expansion. The city said they would
be willing to contribute $100,000 toward the expansion. Discussion was also
held on the 3 mile area around the city. Todd Hampton, City/County Building
Official, reported that he has been in contact with the county attorney on
several issues.
The commissioners adjourned to meet again in
regular session August 15, 2006.
