Local Emergency Planning Committee Minutes

 

            Don called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM with 10 members present.  Don Button   , Jeff Baier, Richard Everett, Richard Banes, Tom Kramer, Al Baker, Alan Olson, John Crosby, Sharon Phelps and Vivian Button

            The City Council and County Commissioners approved and adopted resolutions for the Grant County Mitigation Plan.   A copy of the resolution has been sent to FEMA and KDEM. A verbal confirmation has been received but not a written.

            The State is still working on the new guidelines for our Emergency Operations plan.  When it is released we will have a lot of work to do making changes.

            John Crosby, Terry Crosby, Al Baker, Sean Gooding and Don Button attended the Kansas Hazmat Training Symposium in Wichita on November 19 to the 21.

            John Crosby, Jeff Baier, and Don Button went to Pueblo and attended the 80 Hour HazMat Technician Class.  This was paid for with an HMEP Grant.  They all agreed this class is the best they have taken.  It had lots of hands on experience.

            Don has applied for additional HMEP grants for more training.  They want to send more of the Fire Fighters to the Pueblo class.  John, Jeff and Don would also like to take the Highway Technician Specialist class also offered at Pueblo.

            Kansas One-Call presented Emergency Responder Training 2004.  EMS presented a two-day extrication class.

            Enterprise Products Operating L.P. (Mid America Pipeline) presented a program on their Emergency Response Plan in Sublette for Grant, Haskell and Seward Counties on Friday December 10. Alan Olson and Lance Babcock attended.

            Richard Everett had been to a 2-day Terrorism Class at Hays that was very interesting.

            Sharon Phelps from the Health Department said they still have flu shots.

            Ways to decrease the time it takes to get a tanker of water to county fires was discussed.
