Grant County is a family oriented friendly community
located in the High Plains Region in the southwestern corner of Kansas, with its western edge being 40 miles from the Colorado State line, and its southern
edge 60 miles from the Oklahoma border. The county is 24 miles square and is
considered mostly flat land allowing you to see for miles around. Flat land
is why Grant County has the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets with the
skies being the bluest ever seen. Ulysses won status as county seat in 1888
and is still the only incorporated town in Grant County. The county has a
population of 7790.

The County sits on top of
world famous Hugoton gas field, one of the world’s largest deposits of
natural gas. The field spans over 4,800 square miles. Grant County has offices of many of the major gas production companies in the United States.

the nicest museums around with staff giving guided tours as requested; an airport
with hangers and tie downs, aircraft maintenance, and rental of aircraft’s
and cars; a public swimming complex, including a heated indoor Olympic-size
pool that is open year round; a community civic center complex that hosts
numerous events throughout the year; and a well maintained municipal 9-hole
golf course.

The High Plains is home to
deer, pheasants, wild turkey, coyotes, rabbits, skunks and from time to time
a possum. During open season Grant County has excellent deer and pheasant
hunting.
