The Board of County Commissioners met in special session as members of WEKANDO with all members and the County Clerk present. The meeting was held at 1:00 p.m. in the Pioneer Communications conference room. Gene Pflughoft, Grant County Economic Development Director, also attended the meeting.

Those attending from the other counties were: Dave Bozone and Gary Baker, Stevens County Commissioners; Bob Boaldin, Ron DeGarmo, and Allen Tucker, Morton County Commissioners, and Vienna Lee, Morton County Economic Development Director; and Karla Dimitt, Stanton County Economic Development Director.

A business development group from outside the state gave a presentation on high density short rotation trees and the ancillary businesses derived from them. Those presenting were: Bob Leeson, Advisor to the Group; Richard Rinders, Mr. Leeson’s assistant; Tony Green, Ray Allen’s assistant; Larry Eastlund, President and CEO of the group; Craig Wilson, Vice-President; and Juavier Gonzales, Ironstone Consulting of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Dr. Ray Allen was not present due to a family emergency. The group asked the commissioners to do due diligence and consider guaranteeing money from the counties or as a port authority for their proposed project(s). The cost for the projects over a four year span is estimated at $590,000,000. No decisions were made.

After listening to the presentation, the commissioners from the counties relocated to the Commissioners’ Room at the courthouse. Dave Bozone made the motion to recess into executive session for 1 hour for the purpose of receiving confidential data relating to financial affairs of an individual proprietor. Bob Boaldin seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. After 1 hour the meeting continued in open session.

Dave Bozone made the motion to have Madison Traster contact Pinegar & Smith and tell them to call off auditing work for the time being. Bob Boaldin seconded the motion and it carried.

The next WEKANDO meeting is scheduled for December 27, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at the Stanton County EMS Building.
