C20070622                                                                                                   June 22, 2007

The Board of County Commissioners met in special session at 9:00 a.m. with all members and the County Clerk present.

Bob Forsen, Consultant, and Craig Malone, Malone Enterprises, also attended the meeting.

After confirmation that all requirements of the bid for the Law Enforcement Center Addition had been met, Madison Traster made the motion to accept the low bid of $646,400.00 from Malone Enterprises for construction of the law enforcement center addition. Carl Higgs seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

Discussion was held on excess dirt from the project. The commissioners said the county wants the dirt and they would like to have it stockpiled at the road department, if possible. Mr. Malone said he would talk to his subcontractor regarding this. Mr. Forsen said the road department had stated they might be able to provide trucks to haul their dirt from the construction site, depending on their work schedule.

Discussion was held on compensation for Randy McCauley while he is Interim Road Department Administrator. Carl Higgs made the motion to increase his rate of pay by $2.00/hour during this interim time with the understanding that his rate of pay will return to his regular rate when a new administrator is hired. Madison Traster seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

Madison Traster reported his attendance at the WEKANDO meeting in Elkhart. He presented a draft of policies and procedures for the organization. The commissioners asked the clerk to have the county attorney review the draft and make any recommendations she deems necessary.

Discussion was held on courthouse hours. It was decided that the hours would remain as they are. The hours for county offices are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and those offices will continue to stay open during the noon hour. State office hours are set by the State. Those offices will be open 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The commissioners adjourned to meet again in regular session on July 5, 2007.
